And that President is Viola Davis portraying Danielle Sutton, not your ordinary politician, she is gifted with certain skills. In this highly anticipated film, streamer Amazon is betting on Davis transforming the action genre with a commanding performance as the first Black female President. G20, Prime’s latest political thriller, will make its service premiere on April 10 with the Fences Oscar winner’s portrayal marking a significant change in Hollywood’s approach to action-driven storytelling and breaking the traditional stereotypes. Meanwhile, the trailer embedded below, tells us we are in for some edge-of-our-seat entertainment.

The trailer released late last week for G20 has me genuinely excited, as this action-thriller looks like an all out adrenaline rush that is set to blow viewers away. Certainly, trailers are designed to showcase the best moments of a film, in this case, leaning heavily on explosive action and intense fight sequences. That being said, there is no doubt, if this movie delivers the same energy, G20 will be a real success when it hits the streaming platform on April 10.
The trailer opens with showing both the political and personal stakes of this year’s upcoming G20 summit. President Sutton (Davis) is taking on two battles; determined to mend her family’s reputation following a viral scandal while also tackling global diplomacy. But both these missions take a dangerous turn when a terrorist group led by The Boys actor Anthony Starr launches an attack, aiming to manipulate the world’s twenty most powerful leaders through deepfake technology.
Now, with everything on the line, she’s forced to use her previous military experience and every resource at her disposal to protect her love ones and prevent worldwide catastrophe.
For Starr, G20 marks his return to Prime Video, where he’s already made a name for himself as the menacing Homelander in the wildly successful superhero series. Starr’s incredible talent for portraying intense, complex villains is another reason I’m excited for this thriller.
I’m expecting G20 to be an extremely fun viewing experience
In summary, G20 looks like an edge-of-the-seat thrill ride that has me totally excited for April. Four time Oscar nominee Davis has proven herself as a truly talented actress time and time again, so there’s little doubt of her ability to front Prime’s upcoming film, and Director Patricia Riggen recently told Variety Magazine “This is Viola Davis as you’ve never seen her—- heroically kicking tons of butt in a global thrill ride. With G20, I wanted to make the kind of classic, edge-of-your-seat action film that I’ve always been such a fan of, but one that draws on the high stakes of our modern and technologically advanced world we live in.”
I, personally, am betting on G20 being an absolute blast of a watch, especially with Starr bringing his signature menacing charm to the role of the villain. Overall, the film looks exactly like the perfect action-thriller, with high stakes, intense fight sequences, and Viola Davis in kick-butt mode. If the trailer is any indicator of what the movie has in store for us, I see this film shooting straight to the top of our watchlists.
