Sounding too good to be true, because it is; Sparkle’s new version of herself, named Sue, comes with a strict rule: Elisabeth and Sue must share time, alternating weeks in each body. Soon Sue’s fame eclipses Elisabeth’s former glory, and tensions rise between the two, leading to a potential deadly struggle for identity, control, and of course, fame.

Watching Hugh Grant play against type in Heretic is extremely satisfying. Heretic, directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, is a religious horror film that wisely chooses cerebral chills over cheap shocks.

The movie follows two young missionaries who are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by a diabolical Mr. Reed played by Grant, and becoming ensnared in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse.

19. The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie (2024)

My Dead Friend Zoe is a dark comedy drama that follows the journey of Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army Afghanistan veteran who finds herself at odds with her family thanks to the presence of her dead best friend from the Army, Zoe (Natalie Morales). Despite the persistence of her VA group counselor (Morgan Freeman), the tough love of her mother (Gloria Reuben), and the levity of an unexpected love interest, Merit’s cozy-dysfunctional friendship with Zoe keeps the duo insulated from the world. That is until Merit’s estranged grandfather, played by Ed Harris, holed up at the family’s ancestral lake house, begins to lose his way and needs the one thing he doesn’t want, help. At its core, My Dead Friend Zoe is a buddy film about a complicated friendship, a divided family, and the oh so complex ways in which we process grief.

Though the film is dealing with painful subject matter, My Dead Friend Zoe does so with a light touch, inviting audiences into a healing process that comes with both chuckles and tears.
