Alright, Islanders, grab your boat, your oar, and your emotional support pig, if you have one because Moana 2 has a brand new trailer. Earlier this year, you may remember, came the news that Disney’s long-awaited Moana streaming series had instead turned into a theatrical sequel. If you’re excited about the return of the 2016 adventure, you’ll also be glad to know that Auli’i Cravalho will return as the chief way-finder of her people and that the Rock’s shape shifting demi-god Maui is along for the ride as well. This weekend at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, Disney unveiled the truly epic full trailer for the upcoming sequel and it looks as if the action is shifted three years from the events of the previous film. We are set to see Moana going on a mission to reunite more island people who have long been separated from her community. But there’s a terrifying new villain out there in the form of a purple storm and it’s ready to wreak havoc; for Moana to get beyond it, she’ll need her trusty demigod of the land and sea at her side. This is definitely a promising look at the surprise sequel, which follows a teaser that dropped earlier this year. Clearly, there’s much to take in here, maybe most notably that Moana is a big sister now, to little Simea. Again, there’s a stormy villain that will have Maui pining for the days of Te Ka. And it’s nice to see that Moana is really taking her leadership duties seriously, intent on broadening Motunui’s horizons both on land and sea. And of course, you’ll be excited to see that those murderous coconut pirates, the Kakamora are back and ready to unleash more havoc on the ocean. The sequel is helmed by first-time director David Derrick Jr. (most known as a reputable storyboard artist) and while it is notable Lin-Manuel Miranda is not back on song duties this time, things are in good hands with Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i still involved, and Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear are also stepping in. Fans have taken to social media with a new number performed on the D23 stage by Cravalho herself that sounds very much in keeping with the the music from the original film. Check it out here:
If I’ve wetted your appetite, don’t worry, there’s not long to wait; Moana 2 is just on the horizon (the land where the sky meets the sea) and will wash up on theatrical shores on November 27.

Thank you Chris. Correction: Angela Barlow should be Abigail Barlow.
