The Chilean-born actor whose IMDB page states he is best known for portraying the roles of Oberyn Martell in the fourth season of the HBO series Game of Thrones, Javier Peña in the Netflix series Narcos, the titular character in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, and Joel Miller in the HBO series The Last of Us, is about to be more than just that.

Certainly you can’t call the upcoming year a breakout season for Pedro Pascal, 2023 and 2024 were very kind to Pascal. He is now the lead character in two explosively popular series, The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, but 2025 is primed for Pascal to become a dominant presence in film as well. And since we function primarily as a film website here, it’s time to talk about Pascal’s upcoming roles in the Marvel Universe, his two upcoming A24 productions, and more. And finally, the conversation would not be complete if we didn’t talk about his best roles in film so far.

Pascal’s amazing performance in HBO’s video game adaptation The Last of Us brought him a Screen Actors Guild award in 2024, and solidified his position among Hollywood’s most influential performers. In his recent foray into film in Gladiator II, Pascal showcased he also has what it takes to lead a major film production.

And 2025 will mark a pivotal year in Pascal’s career with his upcoming roles with Marvel and A24. Let’s take a look at his upcoming movies for 2025 and beyond.
1. The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Pedro Pascal is taking on the role of the iconic character Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in Marvel’s upcoming movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The film has a release date of July 25, 2025, and rounding out the four titular characters are Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, the lovely Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach bringing The Thing to life.
Meanwhile, Ralph Ineson takes on the role of Galactus, as the movie is expected to showcase a climatic battle between our heroes and the devourer of planets. Fans of Pascal have reason to rejoice in the announcement from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige that Pascal’s Mr. Fantastic will appear in other crossover films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future plans.
It seems Marvel has made a calculated decision to bring Pascal on board as Richards. With a solid history of bringing life to complex characters, it seems he is perfect for the role of the Fantastic Four leader, as Richards is not just a superhero.
Marvel’s selection of Pascal strongly suggests that the studio is planning on offering some sort of twist to the Fantastic Four that clearly will be different from what people expect from the superhero franchise.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps release will come at the culmination of the multiversal saga within the MCU. Beyond that, the movie should project a lot concerning the future of Pascal’s character and his titular family.

2. Materialists

For his next role, Pascal is paired with Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans in the new romantic comedy from movie studio A24. The movie will portray Dakota Johnson as a successful New York City matchmaker caught in a love triangle. For Pascal, the film will present the actor out of his usual zone of the dark and more serious characters he is generally known for playing.
The film written and directed by Celine Song (Past Lives) has a June 13 release date.
3. Eddington

In his next project for A24, Pascal plays a small-town mayor working alongside Joaquin Phoenix as sheriff in a modern western dark comedy with Ari Aster in the director’s chair. Filming for Eddington was completed in May 2024, and will also showcase the talents of Emma Stone, Austin Butler, and Luke Grimes.
It has been said that Eddington will take inspiration from New Mexico and adapt a story to reflect the COVID-19 pandemic while balancing it out with dark humor and social commentary. Those familiar with director Ari Aster’s work will point to the films Hereditary and Midsommar, and those movies should build expectations that Eddington will be a breath of fresh air. As for Pascal, the project will again partner him with another dynamic filmmaker, and shows he is willing to accept challenging multi-dimensional parts in the future.
4. The Mandalorian & Grogu

Pascal’s Star Wars work on The Mandalorian is taking him to the big screen with The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is set to premiere on May 22, 2026, with fan-favorite Jon Favreau leading the team to extend the Disney+ original story.
Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White are joining the star-studded lineup of the new story of Star Wars movies, promising fans some fresh stories within the long-running saga. The Mandalorian & Grogu was initially set to be a television series before the 2023 writers strike put Lucasfilm on halt, and the project was converted to a full length film instead.
Fans should be excited, as Pascal has led the way by deeply developing Din Djarin’s character, which not only made the series a huge success, but should also push the film to new heights. The Mandalorian & Grogu is expected to work as an anchor story for upcoming Star Wars projects in the pipeline.

5. Avengers: Doomsday

Pascal’s Marvel journey will continue in Avengers: Doomsday. Production recently started on the film that has a scheduled May 1, 2026 release date. The movie will bring together returning Avengers stars alongside newcomers in its epic crossover event to face Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
As a part of the new Marvel lineup, Pascal will reprise his role as Mr. Fantastic alongside veterans of the franchise like Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth. We should also expect to see Pascal in other MCU projects, specifically in Avengers: Secret Wars, which is currently set for a May 7, 2027 release date.
With all these films coming out over the next couple of years, I see Pascal’s career and success soaring even higher than his current level, as his fan base only continues to grow.

The 5 best Pedro Pascal movie roles, ranked
All of this conversation would fall short if I didn’t mention the notable contributions Pascal has already made to the film industry. And so, here are the 5 best Pedro Pascal movie roles to date, ranked.
5. Gladiator II ( General Acacius)

Years after witnessing the death of Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Paul Mescal) must enter the Colosseum after the powerful emperors of Rome conquer his home. Filled with rage, and with the future of the empire at stake, he looks to the past to find the strength and honor needed to return the glory of Rome to its people.
Pascal’s performance as General Acacius adds depth to the story. The Roman army leader once mentored by Maximus, is married to Lucilla, and living luxuriously in Rome, but is often away on campaigns. Becoming evermore disillusioned by war, he questions the emperors’ motives and even conspires with Lucilla to overthrow the corrupt rulers Geta and Caracalla. Pascal captures Acacius’s internal struggles and his complex relationships with such dynamic ability, lifting the film with his gritty performance.

4. The Equalizer 2 (Dave York)

The Equalizer films took the television series from my childhood starring Edward Woodward as Robert McCall and gave the character some Liam Neeson Taken-like energy, only in this case our hero accepts freelance clients. In this sequel, Denzel Washington is back as McCall, a former CIA assassin who, in the first movie began a casual friendship with a teenage sex worker, inciting a war with the Russian mafia. Four years later, The Equalizer 2 sees McCall using his unique set of skills to help others, including his former Defense Intelligence Agency colleague Susan Plummer (Melissa Leo). Pascal is cast in the role of McCall’s former partner, Dave York, in this vigilante action film that also features Ashton Sanders and Bill Pullman. And lest I forget, The Equalizer 2 also includes at least one death by harpoon.

3. If Beale Street Could Talk ( Pietro Alvarez )

Pascal’s role in If Beale Street Could Talk is the perfect example of while not playing a feature role, he does play a critical one. The movie follows a young black couple in New York City as Alonso Hunt is falsely imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit, while his pregnant fiancé is fighting to get him free.
Pascal plays the role of Pietro Alvarez, the representative of Victoria, the woman who claims that Alonso is her rapist. He is visited by Alonso’s mother in Puerto Rico, where he is skeptical of letting her meet with Victoria. In just his one scene, Pascal almost steals the show with his screen presence and acting chops.

2. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent ( Javi Gutierrez )

This is absolutely Pedro Pascal at his funniest, letting his fanboy flag fly proudly in 2022’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent where he plays a billionaire (and possible arms dealer) opposite Nicolas Cage playing a heightened version of himself. Here, Pascal, gets to dig around in a very goofy, meta sandbox with Cage, playing a mysterious wealthy man who pays Cage to attend his birthday party on a Spanish island. Both actors shine in this charming and humorous film.
A Cute Film Addictive Rating: 7.3/10
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is streaming on Netflix. It’s also available for purchase or rental here.
1. The Wild Robot ( Fink )

Shipwrecked on a deserted island, a robot named Roz (Lupita Nyong’o) must learn to adapt to its new surroundings. While building relationships with the native animals, Roz soon develops a parental bond with an orphaned gosling.
Pascal gives voice to Fink, a fox who befriends Roz. Pedro’s performance of Fink is spunky and a bit erratic, but ultimately has a lot of heart, especially when it comes to Roz and her adopted son Brightbill.
A Cute Film Addictive Rating: 8.5/10
The Wild Robot is streaming on Peacock. It’s available for purchase or rental here.
